Reptile and Frog Show

On Friday, we got the boys out of school at lunch time and loaded everyone in the car for a little trip to Castlehill, for the Reptile and Frog Expo. We decided to go on Friday because they were expecting horrendous crowds to Saturday and Sunday and I just don't cope well with crowds.

Anyway, we got there at around 1pm, and we were confronted by a giant inflatable frog. Matilda was beside herself thinking it was a jumping castle. She wanted to go to it the whole time we were there.

We went inside and wandered around the reptile show and selling area. There were lots of hatchlings for sale, and some gorgeous adults too, like this Albino Olive Python.

This Adult Green Tree Python, which are my favourite.

This is Robocroc, who was specially built for the show. He crushes tin cans in his mouth. Harry was front and centre for this demonstration demanding another can to be crushed.

This is John, from Nowra Wildlife Park. He is 4 metres long and 14 years old. Apparently he left his wife, Dawn, at home for the weekend......sounds familiar.

So, we enjoyed the afternoon, except for me standing for an hour by the REAL jumping castle while Mick was talking to his Herping buddies. But he did miss the excitement of discovering a wild brown snake who was not happy that his territory was invaded by all this ring-ins. I was standing near the jumping castle talking to the man who runs the Turkish Gozleme stand, when a 2 metre brown snake slithered past and under one of the enclosures. Mild panic erupted when they discovered its species, but eventually a professional snake handler simply picked the snake up and chucked it in a bag. It was really the best place for a loose snake to end up, with over 6 snake handlers in the vicinity, including 2 or 3 from America.

Fun was had by all.
